Ghana Partners With Private Firm to Build Better Pitches

Young footballers across Ghana could soon have access to world-class playing fields, thanks to a new partnership between the government and the private sector.

Astroturf Ghana Limited met with the National Sports Authority on June 3, 2026, to map out a plan for building better football pitches nationwide. The collaboration focuses on creating safe, durable facilities that meet international standards at every level, from community parks to national stadiums.

Prince Boateng Gyebi, Managing Director of Astroturf Ghana Limited, pointed to a growing problem across the country. Too many substandard artificial pitches have popped up in recent years, creating unsafe conditions that hurt rather than help young players develop their skills.

The solution requires quality construction from the ground up. Professional surfaces don't just look better; they reduce injuries, improve ball control, and help coaches identify talented players who might otherwise go unnoticed.

Director-General Yaw Ampofo Ankrah of the National Sports Authority emphasized that public and private groups working together can accomplish what neither could alone. "We believe every young footballer in Ghana deserves access to a safe and professionally developed playing environment," he said.
