Ghana Places 95% of Students in High Schools

When over half a million students need school placements, getting it right matters for an entire generation.

Ghana's Education Service has successfully placed 95% of students seeking senior high school admission, a remarkable improvement over previous years. The Computerised School Selection and Placement System automatically matched 527,000 students with schools, up from 483,000 last year and 447,000 in 2024.

Daniel Fenyi, head of public relations at Ghana Education Service, shared the encouraging numbers on Monday. He emphasized that the system is working far better than many people realize, especially outside major cities.

The improvement shows up in another important way. Only 53,000 students needed to self-place this year, down sharply from 107,000 last year. That means more families got their placement results automatically without the stress of navigating the system themselves.

Some parents in Accra and the Ashanti Region have faced frustrations at resolution centers, but Fenyi says those local challenges don't reflect the national picture. Fifteen of the seventeen resolution centers across the country are operating smoothly, helping families resolve technical issues or special placement concerns.

The numbers tell a story of real progress. Ghana has about 800,000 available spaces for just over 600,000 students pursuing senior high education. The challenge isn't a shortage of seats but matching students efficiently with the right schools.
