Ghana Preps for Africa's First Youth Olympics in Senegal

Ghana is making final preparations to compete in Africa's very first Youth Olympic Games, set to take place in Senegal from October 31 to November 13, 2026.

Evans Yeboah, Ghana's Chef de Mission and Team Leader, just wrapped up crucial planning meetings in Senegal to ensure the country's young athletes have everything they need to succeed. He toured the three host cities of Dakar, Diamniadio, and Saly, checking out where athletes will stay, train, and compete.

The news is promising. Senegal has built modern facilities ready to host over 3,000 young athletes from 206 countries competing in 25 sports. The Athletes' Village in Diamniadio features secure housing, dining halls, and medical services available around the clock. Competition venues have been freshly upgraded, and a reliable train and bus system will shuttle athletes between locations without the exhaustion of long commutes.

Ghana's High Commission in Senegal pledged full support to make the experience smooth for the team. Yeboah, who previously led Ghana's delegation at the 2018 Youth Olympics and other major competitions, knows what it takes to prepare young athletes for the world stage.

The 12-day event will include mixed-gender and mixed-nation teams designed to build friendships across borders.

Ghana's preparation involves coordination between the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Ghana Olympic Committee, sports federations, and corporate partners working together toward a shared vision.

These young athletes will carry Ghana's flag at a historic moment for the entire African continent, showing the world what the next generation can achieve.
