Ghana Rescues 44 Citizens From Trafficking Ring in Nigeria

Forty-four people are back home in Ghana this weekend after authorities rescued them from a human trafficking scheme operating in Nigeria.

The victims arrived safely in Accra on Friday following a coordinated operation between Ghana's government and Nigeria's State Security Service. Ghana's Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the rescue in a statement released Saturday.

The traffickers used social media and informal recruitment platforms to target their victims. They posted fake job offers and promised travel opportunities that seemed legitimate but were designed to trap people far from home.

One platform identified in the scheme was called Onet. The ministry specifically warned Ghanaian citizens to avoid Onet and similar operations active in Nigeria.

When the 44 Ghanaians arrived in Nigeria expecting jobs, they found something very different waiting for them. The traffickers restricted their movement, used psychological pressure to control them, and forced them to recruit more victims into the same trap.
