Construction workers and community members gather for bridge groundbreaking ceremony in Hohoe, Ghana

Ghana's Hohoe Gets Two New Bridges to Connect Communities

😊 Feel Good

Two new bridges are coming to Ghana's Hohoe Constituency, promising safer travel and better access to markets for farming communities that have dealt with dangerous crossings for too long. Construction starts this month with a two-month timeline for the first bridge.

Farmers and families in Ghana's Hohoe Constituency will soon have safer ways to cross local waterways, thanks to two new bridges breaking ground this month.

Member of Parliament Thomas Worlanyo Tsekpo officially kicked off construction on the Wegbe-Akplamafu and Segbedeme bridges, both funded through the Ghana Road Fund. The projects come after casualties on the old bridges made safe passage nearly impossible for residents.

The Wegbe-Akplamafu bridge will connect four traditional areas and link the Hohoe and Kpando constituencies. Meanwhile, the Segbedeme bridge will give farming communities direct access to Hohoe town, making it easier to transport crops to market and get supplies back home.

Construction crews will start with the 36.6-meter Wegbe-Akplamafu bridge, with the Ghana Highway Authority setting a two-month maximum completion target. Assistant Project Manager Nicholas Nii Nortey Owuo confirmed that local community members will be hired to work on both projects, bringing jobs along with improved infrastructure.

The Ripple Effect

These bridges represent more than just concrete and steel. For farmers who've risked dangerous crossings to sell their harvests, the new structures mean safer trips and less spoiled produce. For families separated by waterways during rainy seasons, they mean staying connected year-round.

Togbe Keh XII, Divisional Chief of Gbi Wegbe, expressed his community's eagerness to contribute local workers to the project. "The community is ready to provide local hands," he said, emphasizing the shared responsibility for success.

Seth Dzandzo, a Unit Committee Member for the Ahado Electoral Area, thanked the government for the Segbedeme bridge specifically. He noted it would transform life for everyone living beyond the bridge, opening up development opportunities that poor infrastructure had blocked for years.

The project fulfills a campaign promise made before the 2024 elections, with approval coming through quickly after concerns about bridge safety reached critical levels. Local leaders say the investment shows responsiveness to real community needs, not just ribbon-cutting photo opportunities.

Safe passage home shouldn't be a luxury, and soon in Hohoe, it won't be.
