Golfer Anthony Kim Wins First Tournament in 16 Years
After 12 years away from competitive golf battling addiction, Anthony Kim just won his first tournament since 2010. The 40-year-old had to qualify just to earn a spot on the tour this season.
Anthony Kim walked off the 18th green at The Grange Golf Club in Adelaide on Sunday, a winner again after nearly 16 years. The golfer who once ranked sixth in the world had just shot a stunning 9-under 63 to win LIV Golf Adelaide by three strokes.
The victory came after a journey most fans never saw. Kim stepped away from professional golf for 12 years, struggling with drug and alcohol addiction during that time.
Last month, the 40-year-old American had to play in a qualifying tournament just to earn another season on the LIV Tour. His best previous finish this season was a tie for 25th place.
"For it to actually happen is pretty insane," Kim said after his win. "I just want to thank all the people that have supported me."
On a sunny Sunday in front of large crowds, Kim made four consecutive birdies between holes 12 and 15, sinking putts from 17, 11, 14 and 17 feet. He added another 15-footer on the 17th hole to seal his victory, finishing at 23 under par for the tournament.

Jon Rahm, who started the final round tied for the lead, finished second after shooting 71. Two-time major champion Bryson DeChambeau, the other co-leader heading into Sunday, shot 74 to tie for third.
Why This Inspires
Kim's story resonates beyond golf. In 2008, he was a rising star who played on a winning U.S. Ryder Cup team and seemed destined for greatness.
Instead, addiction derailed everything. But Kim fought his way back, playing six tournaments on the Asian Tour last year to prove he still had game.
His message after the victory carried weight earned through hard experience. "Nobody else has to believe in me but me," Kim said. "And, for anybody that's struggling, you can get through anything."
The Grange Golf Club crowds followed him up the final fairway, cheering every step. They weren't just celebrating great golf, they were witnessing proof that comebacks are possible even after the longest absences.
Sixteen years is a lifetime in professional sports, but on Sunday in Adelaide, Anthony Kim showed that second chances can still become victories.
