Good Samaritan Helps Ohio Police Catch Armed Suspect

Andrew Haggard was driving home from the store when he spotted someone running from police officers. Within seconds, he made a split-second decision that would help his community and protect the children playing nearby.

Trenton police had been tracking three suspects connected to a string of car break-ins. Officers located all three individuals this week, but one suspect fled on foot after hiding a stolen firearm.

That's when Haggard stepped in. He got the suspect on the ground and held him until officers arrived. "About that time I got him on the ground, had his hands behind his back, and one of the other officers come running up," Haggard explained.

His motivation was clear and immediate. "There's kids all over that neighborhood, and I'm like, I heard her say gun," Haggard said. "You can't have no dude running around with a gun with all of these kids out here playing."

Police Chief Patrick Carr credited the Good Samaritan's assistance as crucial to the arrest. Officers successfully recovered the stolen firearm that had been taken from a vehicle on April 15.

The investigation wrapped up all three suspects in the break-in spree. The stolen items included wallets, laptops, and firearms. Police used drones and home surveillance videos to identify the suspects.

One suspect faces charges for resisting arrest and drug possession after fighting with officers. Another admitted to stealing the firearm and faces felony theft charges. The suspect Haggard helped apprehend faces charges including receiving stolen property, weapons under disability, and tampering with evidence.
