Google Opens First Global AI Campus in Seoul

Google has chosen South Korea as the location for its first global artificial intelligence campus, signaling a major commitment to the country's thriving tech sector.

The tech giant formalized the agreement with South Korea's government this week through a memorandum of understanding. The Seoul campus will serve as a hub for AI research, training programs, and collaboration with local engineers, startups, and research institutions.

The announcement came after discussions between South Korean President Lee Jae Myung and Demis Hassabis, head of Google DeepMind, in Seoul on Monday. Presidential policy adviser Kim Yong Beom confirmed that this represents Google's first facility of its kind anywhere in the world.

South Korea has requested that at least 10 engineers from Google's US headquarters join the campus team. Hassabis said he would seriously consider the proposal as part of the partnership.

Hassabis emphasized that Google DeepMind hopes to deepen partnerships with major South Korean companies including Samsung, SK Hynix, Hyundai's Boston Dynamics, and LG to drive innovation in semiconductors and robotics.
