Google and Fervo have been partners since 2021, when they launched Project Red to prove the technology worked. Last June, they signed a 115-megawatt agreement, and now they're scaling up dramatically with this new deal.

The energy will come from Fervo's Cape Station development in Utah, with power expected to flow by 2028. Phase I will deliver around 100 megawatts starting later this year or early 2027, followed by Phase II's 400 megawatts in 2028.

Fervo raised $2.2 billion when it went public in May, giving it the cash needed to build out this ambitious project. The company plans to spend $850 million to $900 million over the next year expanding its infrastructure.

The agreement brings Fervo's total contracted power sales to about 1.1 gigawatts. By using modular 50-megawatt generation blocks, they can mass-produce components and cut manufacturing costs while building multiple blocks simultaneously.

What makes this deal truly special is how it protects regular ratepayers. Earlier agreements included provisions to shield everyday electricity customers from covering the costs of new development.
