In a landmark move demonstrating genuine care for retired government workers, the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) has disbursed a substantial N55.9 billion to pensioners and their families, highlighting the Tinubu administration's dedication to senior welfare.

The impressive financial distribution, announced by PTAD's Head of Corporate Communications Olugbenga Ajayi, comprised N13.41 billion in monthly pensions and a remarkable N42.5 billion in outstanding arrears. This comprehensive payment covers various pension increments and benefits for retirees across multiple government departments.

Breaking down the payments reveals a strategic approach to resolving long-standing pension obligations. The Civil Service Pension Department received the largest allocation, with N16.36 billion paid to 71,643 pensioners. Other departments, including Customs, Immigration, Prisons, and Defunct Agencies, also saw significant disbursements.

PTAD Executive Secretary Tolulope Odunaiya emphasized that these payments reflect President Bola Tinubu's 'Renewed Hope Agenda', signaling a commitment to improving the lives of senior citizens who dedicated years of service to the nation. The directorate specifically targeted clearing arrears from pension increments, including a N32,000 increase and additional percentage-based adjustments.

Notably, the payments covered not just monthly pensions but also gratuities and death benefits. With N289.11 million allocated to next-of-kin of deceased pensioners, PTAD demonstrated a compassionate approach to supporting retired government workers and their families.

The agency has nearly completed its arrears settlement, with only one outstanding month remaining for pensioners in the Parastatals Pension Department and Tertiary Education and Health Department. Odunaiya assured beneficiaries that these remaining arrears would also be addressed promptly.
