Green Manganese Moves to BC Innovation Hub for Scale-Up

Getting new green technology from a promising idea to real-world production usually takes years and millions in infrastructure costs. A partnership in Delta, British Columbia just changed that equation for one company working to reshape North America's critical mineral supply chain.

Green Manganese has relocated to the RecycLiCo Innovation Centre, a purpose-built facility that houses everything from basic lab equipment to industrial-scale pilot plant infrastructure under one roof. The move means the company can test and refine its low-carbon manganese processing technology without the typical delays and expenses of building new facilities.

Manganese matters more than most people realize. It's essential for both steel production and the batteries powering electric vehicles, yet North America imports nearly all of its supply. Green Manganese is developing a process to extract high-purity manganese from mining tailings and industrial waste right here at home.

The Innovation Centre solves a problem that has held back countless clean technology startups. Companies often spend years stuck between proving their technology works in a lab and demonstrating it can work at commercial scale. This facility lets them do both in the same location.

RecycLiCo specializes in recovering battery materials like lithium, cobalt, nickel and manganese from end-of-life batteries and manufacturing scrap. The company built the Innovation Centre specifically to help other innovators in the critical minerals space accelerate their development timelines.

The arrangement works for both sides. Green Manganese gets access to advanced hydrometallurgy testing equipment and expertise. RecycLiCo generates revenue while supporting the broader goal of building resilient, environmentally responsible supply chains.

This collaboration points to a smarter way forward for clean technology development. Instead of every startup building expensive infrastructure from scratch, shared innovation hubs let multiple companies advance faster while reducing financial risk.

For North America, the stakes extend beyond one company or one mineral. Building domestic capacity to process critical materials means less dependence on imports, more control over supply chains, and new economic opportunities in communities that host these facilities.

CEO Alexey Demykin emphasized the timeline advantage: the Innovation Centre's ready-to-use infrastructure lets Green Manganese focus on perfecting their process rather than building facilities. That focus could shave months or even years off the path to commercialization.
