Guadalajara to Host World Para Swimming Championships 2027
Mexico will welcome over 600 elite Paralympic swimmers from 70+ countries next summer, marking the nation's second time hosting the world championships. The event serves as the final major competition before the 2028 Los Angeles Paralympic Games.
The world's best Paralympic swimmers are heading to Guadalajara, Mexico, where they'll compete for glory just one year before the 2028 Los Angeles Paralympics.
From July 25 to August 1, 2027, the Centro Acuatico CODE Metropolitano will transform into the epicenter of Para swimming excellence. More than 600 athletes representing over 70 nations will compete in 175 medal events at the 13th edition of the World Para Swimming Championships.
This marks Mexico's triumphant return to hosting the competition after a decade. The country previously welcomed the championships to Mexico City in 2017, and Guadalajara has been building its reputation by hosting the Para Swimming World Series since 2023.
The timing couldn't be more perfect for athletes preparing for LA28. "This will be a great opportunity for athletes and teams to compete in a time zone similar to what they will experience at the Paralympic Games," said Craig Nicholson, Head of World Para Swimming.
Mexican fans will get to cheer for homegrown heroes like Paralympic and world champion Jose Arnulfo Castorena. The local swimming community has proven its passion and organizational skills through years of hosting international competitions.

The Ripple Effect
This championship represents something bigger than medals and records. By hosting the World Championships across three continents within five years (following Manchester 2023, Singapore 2025, and now Guadalajara 2027), Para swimming reaches diverse new audiences who might never have experienced the sport's power and athleticism.
The National Paralympic Committee of Mexico sees this as a chance to leave a lasting legacy. Their vision extends beyond two weeks of competition to creating sustained impact for Mexican Para sport and inspiring the next generation of athletes.
Guadalajara's proven track record with the World Series made it a natural choice. The facilities have been tested, the organizers know the sport inside and out, and the city has embraced Para swimming as part of its identity.
The championships join an impressive lineage spanning 30 years, from Malta's inaugural event in 1994 through competitions in New Zealand, Argentina, South Africa, the Netherlands, Canada, Scotland, England, Portugal, and Singapore.
Mexico is rolling out the welcome mat for the world's Paralympic swimming family with open arms and high ambitions.
