Gujarat Tech Park to Create 63,000 Jobs in AI and Deep Tech

A massive new technology park opened in Ahmedabad this week, promising to transform Gujarat into one of India's top tech destinations while creating tens of thousands of careers in cutting-edge fields like artificial intelligence and deep tech.

The Million Minds Tech Park welcomed its first tenants on Sunday, marking Gujarat's first Special Economic Zone focused entirely on IT and global technology centers. Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the sprawling 13.5 lakh square foot facility in the Tragad area of Ahmedabad.

The numbers tell an impressive story. The first phase alone will employ around 9,000 highly skilled professionals immediately. Over the next five years, seven phases of construction will expand across 65 acres with an investment of Rs 15,000 crore (roughly $1.8 billion USD).

When complete, the tech park expects to generate more than 63,000 high-value jobs. These aren't assembly line positions but careers in artificial intelligence, software development, and emerging technologies that will shape the global economy for decades.

Developer Ganesh Housing built the first phase with an investment of Rs 1,100 crore. The company designed it as a complete ecosystem with workspace, residential areas, hotels, and shopping centers all within the tech park.

Shah highlighted how far the neighborhood has come. "When I became an MLA in 1997, even buses did not come here, trains did not reach here," he recalled. "This entire region was completely cut off. And today, seeing Tragad's development brings immense peace and satisfaction to my heart."

The Ripple Effect

This project represents more than job creation for one city. Gujarat has long been an industrial powerhouse but lagged behind cities like Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Pune in the technology services sector.

The Million Minds Tech Park aims to close that gap. By attracting global technology companies and capability centers, Gujarat positions itself to compete for the high-skilled, high-paying jobs that have concentrated in southern India for the past two decades.

The timing aligns with India's broader push into artificial intelligence and emerging technologies. As these fields grow globally, having multiple tech hubs across India creates resilience and spreads opportunity beyond a handful of cities.

For the 63,000 professionals who will eventually work there, the park offers careers in fields that didn't exist a generation ago in buildings that stand where buses wouldn't even travel thirty years earlier.
