Hampton Volleyball Wins First Match Against Rival Unicoi

The Hampton Lady Bulldogs volleyball team just proved that persistence pays off in the sweetest way possible.

On Monday night, the young program defeated Unicoi County High School in a nail-biting five-set match. It was the first time Hampton had ever beaten the Lady Blue Devils since starting their volleyball program in 2023.

The victory came from a total team effort. Mariah Mahaney anchored the defense with an incredible 44 digs, diving and scrambling to keep plays alive throughout the marathon match.

Emma Hodge dominated on both sides of the net, leading the offense with nine kills while adding 15 digs and three blocks. Kiera McKinney provided a defensive wall at the net with five blocks and contributed 16 digs of her own.

The offensive attack was balanced and relentless. Brylee Marlow added eight kills, while Megan Beloat chipped in six more. Setters Maggie Odom and Summer Elliott kept the ball moving with 16 and 10 assists respectively.

But the statistics only tell part of the story. This was a team that refused to give up, fighting through five sets against a program they'd never beaten before.

Why This Inspires

Young programs often struggle for years before finding their footing. Hampton's volleyball team is just three seasons old, still building traditions and learning what it takes to compete at the high school level.

This victory represents more than just a win in the standings. It shows every player on that court that the hours of practice, the tough losses, and the patience required to build something new are all worth it.

For a program this young to knock off a rival school sends a powerful message to the entire Hampton community. Growth takes time, but breakthrough moments do come.
