Harding Sophomore Breaks 37-Year Record With 19-Foot Leap

Some records are meant to be broken, but when they've stood for 37 years, nobody expects them to fall by more than five inches in a single jump.

Harding University sophomore Carly Tucker did exactly that at the Music City Challenge in Nashville this past weekend. The Bullard, Texas native soared 19 feet in the long jump, demolishing a school record set by Letha Stewart in 1988 that measured 18 feet, 7 inches.

Tucker became the first woman in Harding history to break the 19-foot barrier indoors. Her performance came while competing against Division I athletes, making the achievement even more impressive.

The Great American Conference recognized Tucker's historic performance by naming her Women's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week on Tuesday. Her jump easily surpassed the NCAA Provisional qualifying standard and moved her into the top tier of national rankings.

But Tucker didn't stop at the long jump. She competed in three additional events during the multi-day meet: the high jump, the 600-meter run, and the 60-meter hurdles, showcasing the versatility that makes her a standout athlete.
