Harvard Lightweight Rowing Wins 3rd Straight National Title

Harvard's lightweight rowing team just proved that excellence isn't a one-time achievement. On Sunday at the IRA National Championships in California, the Crimson claimed their third straight title, cementing their place as the most dominant program in the country.

Head coach Billy Boyce's crew swept the competition, winning both the varsity and second varsity races while placing second in the four-person boat. The varsity boat extended its remarkable winning streak, completing a second consecutive undefeated season without a single loss.

"Pressure is a privilege," said junior Preston Darling about defending their back-to-back championships. "What our team does best is embrace the pressure and use it to fuel us."

The weekend showcased the program's depth and resilience. The second varsity boat bounced back from a disappointing third-place finish at the Eastern Sprints just a week earlier, claiming gold and beating Penn by 1.50 seconds in sweet revenge.

An hour later, the varsity boat faced their toughest competition from Princeton, Dartmouth, Cornell, Penn, and MIT. Harvard jumped to an early lead and never looked back, crossing the finish line nearly two full seconds ahead of their rivals.

Captain Ben Lundie, rowing in the stroke position, led six returning rowers from last year's championship crew. The team's strategy focused on getting ahead early, knowing their reputation would create doubt in their competitors' minds.
