Helicopter Hoists Two Tourists Off Bali Cliff Face

Two tourists clinging to a steep cliff face in Bali got a second chance at life when rescuers launched a dramatic helicopter evacuation on Thursday.

A 21-year-old Russian woman and a 52-year-old American man found themselves trapped on a vertical rock wall in Uluwatu, one of Bali's most stunning but treacherous coastal areas. The pair became stranded on the cliff in Pecatu Village, South Kuta, unable to climb up or down the sheer face.

A local beach club received their distress call and immediately contacted authorities. First Inspector I Gede Adi Saputra Jaya, Head of Public Relations for the Denpasar Sub-regional Police, explained that the terrain made a ground rescue impossible.

That's when the joint Search and Rescue team made the call to go airborne. An SGI Benoa helicopter flew to the scene and performed a precision hoisting operation, lifting both tourists off the cliff face one by one.

"The evacuation process went smoothly, and both victims were rescued alive," Jaya confirmed. The helicopter transported them directly to a heliport where medical teams waited.

The Bright Side

Both tourists survived without serious physical injuries and are currently receiving treatment for trauma. While authorities haven't yet learned how the pair ended up stranded on such dangerous terrain, the outcome stands as a powerful reminder of what's possible when emergency responders work together seamlessly.

The rescue highlights the preparedness of Bali's emergency teams, who regularly train for challenging scenarios in the island's dramatic coastal landscape. For two people facing a potentially fatal situation, that training made all the difference between disaster and deliverance.
