Helicopter Pilot Rescues Two Men and Dog From Flood

When a helicopter pilot spotted two men stranded on top of their car in the middle of raging floodwaters, he didn't hesitate to act. In northern Australia's remote Manbulloo region, he pulled off a dramatic rescue that saved three lives, including one very wet dog.

The car had been swept off a highway near Katherine after days of heavy flooding turned a normally calm creek into a torrent of white water. Video footage released by emergency services shows the vehicle half-submerged, with the two men clinging to the roof as water roared around them.

The pilot of a Heli-Muster R44 helicopter carefully positioned his aircraft partly on the car roof, creating a stable platform for the rescue. First, he dropped a police officer onto the vehicle to help secure the stranded driver and passenger.

But the pilot wasn't done. After getting the men to safety, he circled back for one more passenger: their dog, who was still trapped inside the flooding vehicle.

Emergency services shared the white-knuckle footage on social media, where it quickly gained attention. The NT Emergency Service's Katherine volunteer unit praised the pilot's skill and courage in pulling off such a challenging rescue.
