The city council approved a $2.27 million incentive package Thursday for an unnamed global company planning to build a 140,000-square-foot clean energy manufacturing facility. The mystery company, temporarily called "Project Vert," is considering Hendersonville alongside other competing cities for the major investment.

If the company chooses Hendersonville, it will invest $95 million in equipment and $5 million in property improvements. The facility would create nearly 400 jobs starting in 2027, rolling out over three years.

The jobs will pay above average salaries, a crucial detail for a region where good-paying work can be hard to find. Mayor Barbara Volk emphasized the community need: "We do need places for our people to work, and the salaries are above average, which is great to hear."

The incentive deal includes smart protections for taxpayers. The $2.27 million would only be paid out over five years if the company delivers on its promises, funded through general property tax revenue.

The company requested anonymity for competitive reasons, a common practice when multiple cities are vying for the same business. City documents describe it as a "global mobility and energy solutions company," suggesting the facility could produce batteries, charging equipment, or similar clean transportation products.
