Hickory Firefighters Save 2 From Tilting Car on Ice

Two people walked away completely uninjured Wednesday morning after Hickory firefighters pulled off a textbook rescue on treacherous icy roads.

Just after 11:00 a.m. on January 28, Engine 5 responded to Franklin Road where a vehicle had slid off the roadway into a ditch. The car was tilted at a dangerous angle with its driver's side front wheel hanging off the road, threatening to roll completely over with both occupants still trapped inside.

Rescue 1 rushed to the scene as backup. When crews arrived, they found the vehicle teetering on the edge of disaster.

The firefighters moved fast. Working together, crews from Engine 5 and Rescue 1 set up a tie-back system to anchor the unstable vehicle in place. Once secured, they carefully extracted both passengers to solid ground.
