Hilary Duff's 'Stronger, Not Smaller' Inspires Thousands
When Hilary Duff launched her "Stronger, Not Smaller" fitness campaign in April, women around the world shared their own strength stories in response. The actress and her trainers are celebrating how the message is changing lives beyond the gym.
Hilary Duff didn't just want to get in shape for her Lucky Me world tour. She wanted to send a message that's changing how women think about fitness.
The 38-year-old performer partnered with fitness platform Ladder in April to launch "Stronger, Not Smaller," a campaign encouraging women to build strength instead of shrinking themselves. Women across the globe responded by flooding social media with their own strength journeys.
"I love to move weights. I love to be strong," Duff said in an exclusive interview with Women's Health. "It's not powerful to want to shrink and be a smaller version of yourself, and spreading that word, I think, is really important."
Duff trained with Ladder coach Kelly Matthews to prepare for the physical demands of touring. Since hitting the road, she's switched to coach Elise Young's Team Elevate program, which requires less equipment while traveling.

The campaign marked Ladder's first celebrity partnership, but the message resonated far beyond a typical celebrity endorsement. Ladder's trainers say they're seeing real mindset shifts in the women they coach.
Why This Inspires
Lauren Kanski, a senior founding coach at Ladder and mom of two young children, sees the campaign as a legacy moment. "As a mom, the example I set, especially for my daughter, is everything," she said. Growing up, she focused on fitting in by making herself smaller, but strength training changed everything.
Now she gets to coach thousands of women daily toward the same transformation. Matthews echoed that sentiment, calling it "the message I needed to hear 20 years ago, but never got."
Duff experienced the shift firsthand when she embraced lifting. "Everything changed for me—how I feel, how I move, how I sleep, how I perform in every area of my life," she said during the campaign launch.
The best part? It's never too late to start building that strength.
