Historic Temple Opens for First Time Since 1893
After six years of renovations, Salt Lake City's iconic temple will welcome public tours for the first time in 134 years. Thousands of volunteers needed to help share this historic moment with visitors from around the world.
For the first time since 1893, the Salt Lake Temple in Utah will open its doors to the public, inviting everyone to explore its newly renovated interior. This rare six-month celebration offers a once-in-a-lifetime chance to witness history and help others experience it too.
The temple closed for major renovations six years ago, and now it's ready to welcome guests seven days a week from April 5 through October 1, 2027. The open house marks an extraordinary opportunity for people of all backgrounds to tour the historic building and learn about its significance.
Temple Square is calling for exceptional volunteers to join "the Rejoice Team" starting this June. Anyone 16 or older can apply, regardless of experience or background, to help guests feel welcomed and inspired throughout their visit.
Volunteers will assist with wayfinding, accessibility services, and activities during the celebration. Young performers can also apply as musicians, vocalists, and cultural performers to enhance the guest experience.

The commitment is manageable: eight weeks of service with one three to four-hour shift per week. Volunteers can choose times between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. that fit their schedules, making it accessible for students, working professionals, and retirees alike.
The Ripple Effect
This celebration extends far beyond Temple Square's boundaries. A virtual tour option means people worldwide can experience the renovated temple without traveling to Utah, connecting global communities through shared cultural heritage.
The six-month event will feature more than just temple tours. Visitors can enjoy new exhibits, performances, feature films, and special experiences across Temple Square, including tickets to Music & the Spoken Word and tours of the historic Beehive and Lion House.
Public tour reservations open September 1, 2026, through the Temple Square App. The celebration welcomes everyone, whether they can visit in person or join virtually from home.
What started as a renovation project has become an invitation to thousands of volunteers ready to serve their community and share an unforgettable experience with visitors from every corner of the world.
