Historic Victory Theater Reopens After 2024 Tornado
After tornadoes ripped through Rogers, Arkansas on Memorial Day 2024, the nearly century-old Victory Theater is set to welcome audiences back this April. A generous donation kept performers rehearsing while their beloved home was rebuilt.
The lights are coming back on at Rogers, Arkansas's Victory Theater, nearly a year after Memorial Day tornadoes tore through the historic venue built in 1927.
The Arkansas Public Theatre will return home on April 10, 2026, ending a difficult chapter that began when the storms caused extensive structural damage and flooding to the downtown landmark. The theater company had called the Victory home for over 25 years.
"Our organization is inextricably linked to the Victory because that's where we've been performing our shows for the last 25 or 26 years," said Rusty Turner, a board member.
When disaster struck, the theater group faced an uncertain future. Performers had no permanent space to practice, and the logistical headaches piled up quickly.
But hope arrived in an unexpected form. James Lefevre, chairman of the Arkansas Public Theatre, and his wife donated a new practice facility designed to match the Victory Theater stage exactly.

"When we were performing or rehearsing at other places, it was never the same size as our stage," Lefevre explained. The custom space solved years of challenges about where to rehearse, audition, and store equipment.
The Ripple Effect
The Victory Theater's comeback is part of a larger story of community resilience in Rogers. Northwest Park and the public library, also heavily damaged in the tornadoes, are preparing their own reopening celebrations.
The theater group chose their reopening production with intention. "Come From Away" tells the story of communities rallying together during crisis, mirroring Rogers' own journey over the past year.
"It's going to be great to see it back up and running," said Peter Masonis with the City of Rogers.
The Grand Reopening Open House on April 10 will mark not just the return of a building, but the restoration of a cultural heart that's been beating in downtown Rogers for nearly a century.
