Historic Victory Theatre Reopens After Tornado Damage

The lights are back on at Victory Theatre in Rogers, Arkansas, nearly two years after a tornado ripped through the historic building and left it in ruins.

On a spring evening filled with celebration, Arkansas Public Theatre welcomed community members back to the beloved venue that had sat dark since May 26, 2024. The tornado had forced the theater company to scatter, performing wherever they could find space while their home underwent repairs.

Amy Johnson, board president of Arkansas Public Theatre, says the community's support carried them through the long wait. "Our patrons, friends and family are huge supporters of ours and they have opened up their arms and encouraged us along the way," she shared at the reopening celebration.

The theater company kept performing during the displacement, borrowing stages and spaces across the region. Local arts venues stepped up without hesitation, offering their theaters so shows could go on while Victory healed.

The Ripple Effect

The Victory Theatre's comeback shows how a community can rally around what matters most. When the tornado struck, it didn't just damage a building. It threatened a gathering place where neighbors became friends, where local actors found their calling, and where families made memories.

But instead of giving up, Rogers residents doubled down on their commitment to the arts. They bought tickets to shows in temporary venues, donated to restoration efforts, and kept showing up. Their message was clear: this theater matters, and we're bringing it back.

Now the restored Victory Theatre stands ready to create new memories. The first production in the renovated space will be "Come From Away," running late June with shows from the 19th through the 21st and again from the 25th through the 28th.

Johnson says seeing familiar faces return to their seats makes all the struggle worthwhile. "Just knowing that they're as excited to be back as we are is amazing," she said.

The tornado took the building for a while, but it couldn't take away what the Victory Theatre means to Rogers.
