Hong Kong Launches First Hub for Solo AI Entrepreneurs

Starting a tech company alone just got a whole lot easier in Hong Kong. Cyberport launched the city's first hub specifically designed for one-person companies building AI businesses, giving solo entrepreneurs access to resources that used to cost a fortune.

Announced on July 13 at the Web4.0 & Agentic AI Innovation Summit, the OPC Hub addresses a problem many solo founders face: sky-high costs for cloud computing and cybersecurity. "We provide compute resources, tokens, cloud services and cybersecurity support," said Dr. Rocky Cheng, CEO of Cyberport.

The hub partners with tech giants like NVIDIA, AWS, Alibaba Cloud, and Dell Technologies to offer discounted services. Members also get co-working space at Cyberport 3, meaning entrepreneurs can launch with little more than a laptop and an idea.

Security is built into the foundation. A new Web4.0 & Agentic AI Security Alliance brings together 12 leading cybersecurity firms to help protect AI systems as they become more autonomous. With AI agents now capable of planning, executing tasks, and making decisions independently, safeguards matter more than ever.

The hub doesn't just provide tools. It connects members directly with investors and industry partners through networking events and promotional opportunities. Training sessions help founders navigate the technical challenges of deploying AI agents safely and effectively.

To qualify, companies must be incorporated in Hong Kong, operating for less than two years, and working on AI agent development or related technologies. The initiative welcomes both local and international talent.

This launch signals Hong Kong's commitment to becoming a hub for AI innovation in Asia. By lowering barriers for solo entrepreneurs, the city is betting that small teams with big ideas can compete globally when given the right support.

During the summit, experts explored how individuals can now handle research, customer service, and operations management tasks that once required entire teams. Samuel Lo from NVIDIA shared examples of scalable businesses built by single founders using AI agents.

The timing matters. As AI systems grow more capable, the gap between what individuals can build and what corporations control is narrowing. Hong Kong is positioning itself at the center of this shift.
