Hong Kong Tramways launched a new mobile app this week that tells passengers exactly when the next three trams will arrive at their stop. The company installed over 400 sensors along the 30-kilometer route to track every tram in real time.

Managing director Paul Tirvaudey says the app was designed with simplicity in mind, especially for elderly passengers who make up a significant portion of riders. The interface is clean and straightforward, letting anyone check arrival times and destinations with just a few taps.

The app goes beyond just tracking trams. It sends push notifications about service changes or disruptions, so riders can plan around delays before they reach the stop.

In the coming months, the company will add QR codes at tram stops. Passengers who don't want to download the app can simply scan the code to see when their ride is coming.
