Horse Racing Championship Pledges $5K to Retired Horses

When racehorses cross the finish line for the last time, hundreds of organizations work to give them safe, healthy second careers, and now one of horse racing's biggest events is putting real money behind that mission.

The National Thoroughbred Racing Association announced that Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance will return as the Official Charity Partner of the National Horseplayers Championship in Las Vegas this March. The NTRA will match every dollar donated by attendees throughout the three-day event, up to $5,000.

The championship runs from March 13 to 15, 2026, at the Horseshoe Las Vegas Hotel and Casino. On the final day, organizers will present the matched donation check to help fund accredited aftercare programs across the country.

Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance accredits and supports organizations that retrain, rehome, and retire former racehorses. Many horses become beloved companions, trail mounts, or even therapy animals after racing. Some simply enjoy peaceful pasture retirement after years of competition.

Throughout the championship week, the organization will run an on-site booth where horseplayers can learn about aftercare programs and donate in exchange for branded merchandise. Attendees can also enter raffles for various prizes while supporting the cause.

The partnership goes both ways. Earlier this year, NTRA donated a VIP experience package to Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance's "Off to the Races" online auction, including hotel accommodations and a waived entry fee for a championship qualifier.
