Hospital Volunteers Fund Scholarships for Future Nurses

A group of dedicated volunteers in San Benito County is proving that small acts of service can create big opportunities for the next generation of healthcare workers.

The Hazel Hawkins Hospital Auxiliary has opened applications for their 2026 scholarship awards, which help local students pursue medical and healthcare careers. The volunteers fund these scholarships entirely through their own efforts, running a thrift shop, managing the hospital gift shop, and organizing community fundraisers throughout the year.

These aren't casual volunteers. Auxiliary members collectively donate thousands of hours annually to support their mission. Every item sold and every event organized goes directly toward scholarships and essential equipment for Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital and its Skilled Nursing Facilities.

The scholarship is open to San Benito County residents who have lived in the area for at least one continuous year and are current or enrolled college students. High school graduates or those with equivalent credentials can apply if they're pursuing any medical or medically oriented career path.
