HP and Huawei End Patent Dispute With Wi-Fi Deal

The computer and printer giant HP signed a global patent cross-licensing agreement with Chinese tech powerhouse Huawei in August 2026. The deal gives both companies access to critical Wi-Fi technologies, including patents for Wi-Fi 6 and the cutting-edge Wi-Fi 7 standard.

While HP emphasized this is strictly a technology licensing deal and not a broader partnership, the outcome shows how collaboration can replace confrontation. Other tech companies like Cisco, Netgear, and Acer have also joined similar patent pools, creating a more connected industry ecosystem.

Huawei has invested heavily in innovation, pouring nearly 22% of its revenue into research and development. That commitment has resulted in more than 165,000 active patents by the end of 2025, making it one of the world's largest patent holders.
