Hyundai Invests $200M in Alabama, Creates 200 Jobs

A South Korean manufacturing giant just announced a $200 million expansion that will bring 200 new jobs to Montgomery, Alabama, and help solve a critical infrastructure problem facing the nation.

Hyundai Power Transformers USA revealed plans Friday to significantly expand its Montgomery operations. The new facility will manufacture large power transformers, the massive equipment that keeps electricity flowing to homes and businesses across America.

The timing couldn't be better. About 70% of the nation's large power transformers currently need replacement, creating an urgent demand for domestically produced equipment. Hyundai already supplies more than 15% of these critical components in the United States.

"This expansion reflects our long-term confidence in Montgomery and the State of Alabama," said Jinho Kang, President of HD Hyundai Power Transformers USA. The company has called Montgomery home since 2011 and clearly plans to stay.

The new facility is scheduled to open in mid-2027. It will manufacture even larger transformer units than the current factory can produce, expanding American manufacturing capacity right when the country needs it most.
