IIT Madras Opens AI Innovation Hub in Dubai

A groundbreaking AI innovation center is bringing Indian tech expertise to the heart of Dubai, opening new doors for startups and researchers on both sides of the partnership.

IIT Madras Global Research Foundation just launched its first Applied Artificial Intelligence Innovation Centre at Dubai CommerCity. The facility will support six early-stage AI startups focused on solving real market problems while building the local innovation ecosystem.

The numbers tell an impressive story. These six startups have already reached a combined valuation of nearly $118 million. Over the next five years, they're projected to generate approximately $281 million in revenue.

The announcement came during WORLDEF Dubai 2026, a major digital commerce conference that brought together government leaders and business innovators. MCA Gulf is partnering with IIT Madras to help translate academic research into practical business solutions.

Professor Raghunathan Rengaswamy, Dean of Global Engagement at IIT Madras, explained that the center creates a vital bridge between university research and real-world industry applications. He emphasized the facility's commitment to developing AI that serves people responsibly and ethically.

The center has ambitious goals beyond just launching startups. It will focus on developing local products, speeding up solution deployment, creating intellectual property, and building strong partnerships with government agencies and industry players.

Amna Lootah, Director-General of Dubai CommerCity and Dubai Airport Freezone, highlighted how the project reinforces Dubai's position as a hub for digital trade and advanced technologies. Government officials see the center as perfectly aligned with Dubai's vision for innovation-driven economic growth.
