Illinois State Wins 6th All-Sports Title in 7 Years

Illinois State University's athletic program just proved that excellence isn't a one-time achievement—it's a habit worth celebrating.

The Redbirds claimed the 2025-26 Missouri Valley Conference All-Sports Championship for the second year in a row and sixth time in seven years. This trophy recognizes the school with the best overall performance across all conference sports, making it the ultimate test of athletic program strength.

Illinois State's success this year wasn't built on one or two standout teams. The Redbirds won championships in men's golf, men's outdoor track and field, and women's tennis while placing in the top five across 11 other sports including baseball, basketball, volleyball, and softball.

Director of Athletics Dr. Jeri Beggs praised the collective effort behind the win. "Winning the MVC All-Sports trophy is the perfect ending to one of the most memorable years ever for the Redbirds," she said, highlighting three championships and multiple postseason runs that put Illinois State on the national stage.

The numbers tell a remarkable story of sustained success. Illinois State has now won 18 all-sports championships overall and finished in the top three for 32 of the past 35 years. Their aggregate score of 8.857 edged out Murray State, which finished second in its best showing since joining the conference in 2022.

The competition wasn't easy. Nine different schools won at least one championship this season, with UIC and UNI each claiming four titles. Four other schools including Murray State and Indiana State earned three championships each, proving the conference's deep talent pool.

This kind of consistent success creates opportunities far beyond the playing field. Student-athletes across 14 different sports benefit from coaching excellence, improved facilities, and a winning culture that attracts top talent. When one team succeeds, it raises the bar for everyone.
