The Daily Illini student newspaper sparked the perfect photo tradition by creating special "FINAL FOUR" edition covers. Assistant Sports Editor Sahil Mattil handed them out to the team after each tournament win, giving players hometown memories to match other teams' celebrations.

Back on campus, the reaction caught everyone off guard. Students climbing the iconic Alma Mater statue waved the papers triumphantly while the sports editor rushed around distributing just 20 copies to eager fans.

Days later, the office was flooded with visitors and messages from people desperate for their own copy. They're all gone now, but the excitement keeps building.

When student tickets went on sale Monday at $40 each, they vanished in under 15 minutes. UI Athletics Chief Commercial Officer Tom Moreland said demand quickly exceeded the 4,000-ticket NCAA allotment for students, donors and team guests combined.

That didn't stop the celebration. About 650 students are making the trip to Indianapolis with Orange Krush, the school's famous student section.

Even Illinois center Zvonimir Ivisic felt it. After watching videos of students swarming Alma Mater following the Houston win, he told Mattil he wished he could be part of that campus energy.

The Daily Illini's social media is seeing record engagement, proving this excitement reaches far beyond Champaign-Urbana. Visual Director Josh Fine noticed something special happening: people experiencing this kind of collective joy for the first time in years.

Campustown bars are charging $100 covers for game-watching, but students are finding their own ways to celebrate together. Private watch parties are forming as friends gather from across the state.

When the Illini tip off Friday, whether fans are packed into Lucas Oil Stadium or huddled around campus TVs, they'll all be riding the same wave of hope and pride that's transformed their university into one giant celebration.
