The 48-hour window comes with reasonable limits. Travelers booking a domestic flight leaving in less than seven days won't qualify. For international flights, that cutoff extends to 15 days. The free cancellation only applies to tickets booked directly through airline websites.

Name spelling errors got easier to fix too. If you catch a typo within 24 hours of booking directly with an airline, they must correct it for free. No more paying fees to fix their booking system's quirks.

Medical emergencies now trigger more compassionate policies. If a passenger or family member on the same booking gets hospitalized during the travel period, airlines must offer either a refund or a credit voucher. The choice belongs to the passenger, not the airline.

Refund timelines got stricter as well. Airlines must return money to credit cards within seven days of cancellation. Refunds through travel agents or booking portals must clear within 14 working days. Cash purchases at airline offices get immediate refunds.
