India Approves $13M to Upgrade 5 Roads in Kozhikode

😊 Feel Good

Five major roads in Kozhikode, India are getting a complete makeover thanks to a $13 million federal approval that will finally fix a bottleneck bridge and slash travel times. Local MP M.K. Raghavan secured the funding after repeatedly pushing federal officials to address residents' long-standing connectivity concerns.

Commuters in Kozhikode, India just got some excellent news that will transform their daily drives for years to come.

The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways approved $13 million (₹107 crore) to upgrade five major roads across the Kozhikode constituency. The funding comes through the Central Road Infrastructure Fund and addresses demands residents have been making for years.

The biggest win? Reconstruction of the narrow Mavoor-Kuttikkadavu bridge, a notorious traffic bottleneck that has frustrated drivers for years. The project includes improvements to the bridge's approach roads, which will help traffic flow more smoothly through the area.

Local MP M.K. Raghavan championed the funding after repeatedly raising concerns with the Union Ministry. He personally urged Union Minister Nitin Gadkari in July 2024 to include three additional road projects in the funding plan.

The money gets distributed across five critical routes. The Pulparamba Mukk-Nayarkuzhi-MVR Hospital-Kanniparamba-Kuttikkadavu-Chettikkadavu stretch received the smallest allocation at $2.4 million, while the Nellamkandi-Elettil-Vattoli-Valliyoth-Karukunnath road got the largest share at $3.5 million.

Three other roads also made the cut. The Medical College-Mavoor road secured $2.8 million, the Chathamangalam-Ishtika Bazaar-Sanketham-Thengilakadavu road received $2.3 million, and the Ambalapadi-Moonnilampadam-Pullikkadavu-Kadalundikadavu road got $1.9 million.

The Ripple Effect

Better roads mean more than just smoother commutes. Local businesses will see easier access for customers and suppliers, reducing delivery times and costs. Emergency services can respond faster to calls across the constituency. Students traveling to schools and colleges will spend less time stuck in traffic and more time learning.

The upgrades will substantially improve connectivity between neighborhoods that have felt cut off from each other due to poor infrastructure. Reduced congestion means less air pollution from idling vehicles and lower fuel costs for families already stretching their budgets.

When infrastructure investments reach communities that have waited years for attention, everyone benefits from the connection and opportunity that follows.
