India Boosts Aid to Women-Led Families by 66%
Starting February 7, women heading Below Poverty Line families in Puducherry will receive ₹2,500 monthly, up from previous amounts. The announcement comes alongside new healthcare facilities and education support reaching thousands of families.
Women leading Below Poverty Line families in Puducherry are getting a meaningful boost. Chief Minister N. Rangasamy announced the enhanced monthly assistance of ₹2,500 will begin reaching recipients on February 7.
The news came during a virtual ceremony marking the foundation of a new Community Health Centre in Palloor, Mahe. Lieutenant Governor K. Kailashanathan laid the foundation stone for the four-story, 50-bed facility that will serve multiple communities.
Students are also celebrating new support. The government will distribute free laptops to all students in grades 11 and 12 within the next two weeks, including those who missed out last year.
The new healthcare facility represents decades of waiting finally coming to an end. Though land was acquired back in 2009, technical difficulties stalled the project for years. The ₹12.75 crore hospital is now expected to be completed in about 18 months.

Modern amenities will transform healthcare access for the region. The new building will house an operation theater, special wards, a gynecology department, and a physiotherapy unit alongside traditional treatment facilities.
The Ripple Effect
The changes extend far beyond individual families. Over 4,000 government positions have been filled, with appointment orders for primary school teachers, nurses, and health department staff coming soon.
Scholarships worth ₹27 crore have already been distributed to students. Those who studied in government schools will now receive 10 percent reservation in all college courses, opening doors to higher education for thousands.
The healthcare facility will serve residents across multiple areas, including Palloor, Panthakal, Chalakkara, and neighboring communities in nearby Kerala. Poor patients who previously faced long journeys for quality care will now have access close to home.
These interconnected programs show how supporting women and families creates waves of opportunity throughout entire communities.
