India Gets $1.2B Clean Energy Platform in Maharashtra
A new clean energy company is investing $1.2 billion to build solar manufacturing facilities and green hydrogen production across India over the next five years. The massive project starts with a 6-gigawatt solar plant in Maharashtra that could power millions of homes.
India just got a powerful new player in the race toward energy independence and a cleaner future.
LNK Energy launched this week with plans to invest 10,000 crore rupees (about $1.2 billion) into clean energy manufacturing and renewable power generation. The company brings together experienced entrepreneurs from India's largest Coca-Cola bottling operation and successful solar energy ventures.
The first project breaks ground in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, Maharashtra, where LNK Energy will build a massive 6-gigawatt solar cell and module manufacturing facility. Spanning more than 60 acres, the plant will produce high-efficiency solar panels using cutting-edge technology and global manufacturing standards.
The Maharashtra government has already signed an agreement to support the development. This factory will create jobs while strengthening India's ability to produce its own clean energy equipment instead of importing it.
LNK Energy isn't stopping at solar panels. The company plans to expand into making related components like junction boxes, battery systems, and energy storage solutions. After establishing its manufacturing base, the team will move into green hydrogen production to help heavy industries transition away from fossil fuels.

The company will also develop renewable power plants as an independent energy producer, combining solar arrays with battery storage and other clean sources. This full-spectrum approach covers everything from making the equipment to generating and storing the actual power.
The Ripple Effect
This investment addresses three of India's biggest priorities at once: energy security, industrial self-reliance, and reducing carbon emissions. By manufacturing solar components domestically, India reduces dependence on imports while creating local jobs and technical expertise.
The green hydrogen production planned for later phases could transform how India's hardest-to-clean industries operate. Steel manufacturing, chemical production, and heavy transportation could all shift toward cleaner fuel sources as this technology scales up.
Co-founder Dr. Kushagra Nandan, who previously helped build major solar companies, described LNK Energy as a long-term institution designed for sustained value creation. Fellow co-founder Varun Karad emphasized that future energy success lies in integrating manufacturing, green fuels, and renewable power generation under one roof.
The timing couldn't be better as India races toward ambitious renewable energy targets while building domestic manufacturing capacity. One integrated platform tackling multiple pieces of the clean energy puzzle could accelerate progress across the entire sector.
