India Opens 5.6 GW Solar Plant, Doubling National Capacity

A sprawling new solar manufacturing plant in India just switched on its production lines, and the scale is staggering: 5.6 gigawatts of capacity that can produce four solar modules every 16 seconds.

Premier Energies opened the facility in Seetharampur, Telangana, pushing India's total solar module manufacturing capacity past the 10 gigawatt mark. That's enough to power millions of homes with clean energy made right at home.

The 75-acre factory isn't just big. It's smart. AI-powered systems scan every module as it rolls off the line, catching and correcting defects before they leave the building. This means more reliable solar panels reaching rooftops and solar farms across India and beyond.

The facility produces advanced G12R TOPCon modules with zero-busbar architecture, a technical upgrade that squeezes more electricity from the same amount of sunlight. Better efficiency means families and businesses get more power from fewer panels.

"We are positioning ourselves to deliver reliable, high-efficiency solutions at scale and support India's clean energy transition," said Chiranjeev Saluja, Premier Energies' managing director. The company is betting big on this vision with a three-year, $1.38 billion expansion plan.

That investment will more than double the company's manufacturing capacity again. Premier Energies is also moving into producing the raw materials that go into solar panels, plus inverters, transformers, and battery storage systems. Building the entire supply chain at home means less dependence on imports and faster response to growing demand.
