India Wins Gold in Cricket at Asian Games 2026

India's cricket stars delivered a spectacular performance in Nisshin, Japan, bringing home both men's and women's gold medals from the Asian Games 2026.

The men's team defended their title with a 19-run victory over rivals Pakistan in Saturday's final at Karogi Athletic Park. Opener Abhishek Sharma set the tone early with a blazing 61 runs off just 28 balls, while Tilak Varma closed strong with an unbeaten 51 off 22 to push India to 211 runs.

Pakistan fought hard, with Hasan Nawaz scoring an impressive 96 runs and keeping the game alive until the final over. But India's bowlers held their nerve, restricting Pakistan to 192 runs and securing the gold medal.

The victory extended India's head-to-head lead against Pakistan in T20 matches to 15-3. Captain Shreyas Iyer praised his team's resilience, particularly during Pakistan's middle-over comeback when their spinners briefly stalled India's scoring.

Earlier in the tournament, the Indian women's team had already secured their gold medal by defeating Sri Lanka. This marked the second consecutive Asian Games where India won both cricket titles, having first achieved the feat at Hangzhou 2023.

The Ripple Effect

India's cricket success at the Asian Games showcases the growing depth of talent across both their men's and women's programs. Young stars like Abhishek Sharma and Tilak Varma are stepping up alongside established players, proving that India's cricket future is bright.

The women's victory adds to India's growing momentum in women's cricket, inspiring a new generation of young athletes across the country. With cricket set to return to the Olympics at Los Angeles 2028, India's dual gold medals send a powerful message about their medal ambitions.

This achievement also highlights the sport's expanding global reach, with Asian nations investing heavily in developing both men's and women's cricket programs.

India's cricket teams have shown that hard work, teamwork, and determination create champions who inspire millions.
