Indian EV Battery Maker Hits 100,000 Units in 8 Years

Octillion Power Systems' India division rolled out its 100,000th electric vehicle battery on March 20, cementing the country's growing role in the global shift to cleaner transportation. The battery maker, which started with a single facility in Pune back in 2017, now operates three plants spanning over 300,000 square feet.

The milestone battery was built at the company's Pune facility for a new all-electric passenger SUV from a major Indian automaker. It took just eight years for Octillion's India operations to grow from producing their first electric bus battery to becoming the country's largest EV battery manufacturer.

The achievement arrives as Indian cities grapple with some of the world's worst air pollution. Octillion now produces batteries for passenger cars, trucks, buses, and even two and three-wheeled vehicles, offering cleaner alternatives across nearly every transportation category.

The company's India division expects to produce 8 gigawatt hours of energy in 2026 alone. That's enough power to keep hundreds of thousands of electric vehicles running without tailpipe emissions.

Nikhil Parchure, who leads Octillion's India operations, points to the real-world impact: "Our ambition in India is to enable cleaner, more sustainable transportation to help combat the pollution affecting our cities and communities."

The Ripple Effect

The manufacturing milestone means more than just numbers on a production line. Each battery represents one more gas-powered vehicle that can be replaced with an electric alternative, directly reducing emissions in India's congested urban centers.

The scale-up also shows that India can build a robust domestic supply chain for advanced clean technology. Octillion went from assembling batteries in one building to operating across three facilities, proving local manufacturing can compete globally while creating skilled jobs.

The company has already delivered over 2.5 million EV batteries worldwide, powering vehicles that have traveled more than 39 billion kilometers without fossil fuels. India's growing share of that production signals the country's emergence as a clean energy manufacturing hub.

With a third major facility under construction in Gujarat, Octillion's expansion reflects growing demand from Indian automakers racing to electrify their fleets. Every new battery rolling off these production lines brings India closer to cleaner air and quieter streets.
