Indian Village Gets AI University Campus by 2027

A small village in coastal Karnataka is about to become home to India's newest artificial intelligence education hub, and it won't cost students a single rupee.

Sathya Sai University for Human Excellence announced plans to open an AI and machine learning campus in Madiyala village, near Vitla, by November 2026. The first batch of students will start their four-year degree programs in June 2027, with an additional year of internship included.

The location honors Madiyala Narayana Bhat, founder of educational organization Loka Seva Vrinda, on what would be his 100th birthday. Bhat spent his life trying to transform India's education system, and this tech campus continues that mission in a modern way.

Madhusudan Sai, the university's chancellor and founder of the One World One Family Mission, says the choice to put advanced technology in a village is intentional. "Just because our students are receiving free education, they must not be deprived of cutting-edge knowledge," he explained during a public event in Mangaluru.

When asked about a spiritually rooted organization launching a high-tech campus, Sai pointed out that science has always been part of India's knowledge tradition. "Our sages who reached great spiritual heights were simultaneously scientists," he said.

The university already runs educational programs across 15 districts in Karnataka. Plans include expanding to all districts in the state, along with free hospitals in each location.

The Ripple Effect

This announcement signals something bigger than one campus. By placing advanced AI education in a rural setting with free tuition, the university is breaking down two major barriers at once: cost and geography.

A 50-bed free hospital is also coming to Mangaluru, though details are still being finalized. The organization currently feeds one crore children through its SaiSure nutrition program and aims to reach five crore children nationwide.

During the announcement, Sai received the Karnataka Parivarthaka Award and presented another to M. Mohan Alva, chairman of Alva's Education Foundation. He also called for better distribution of Corporate Social Responsibility funds to service organizations doing this kind of work.

For students in coastal Karnataka, world-class AI education is coming to their backyard, and the only admission requirement will be their willingness to learn.
