Indiana County Awards $50K to 8 Growing Local Businesses

Orange County, Indiana turned small business dreams into reality this year, awarding $50,000 in grants to eight local companies ready to grow.

The Orange County Economic Development Partnership selected winners from 20 applications requesting more than $170,000. That competitive pool shows something powerful: entrepreneurs in this rural community are ready to invest in their future.

The grant winners represent the backbone of small-town America. A chiropractor upgrading facilities, a gymnastics center expanding programs, and a pizza kitchen improving operations all received funding. Elliott Manufacturing & Fabrication is using their award to buy new equipment that will allow them to take on bigger projects and potentially hire more workers.

Some grants tackled accessibility head-on. Court Street Commons received funding for a handicap-accessible entrance, opening their doors wider to the entire community. Direct Current Auto Center built a new customer waiting room, turning a simple upgrade into better service for everyone who walks through their doors.

The awards represent just one piece of Orange County's economic strategy. The partnership participated in 45 business meetings throughout the year and helped local entrepreneurs secure an additional $11,000 in revolving loans. They also hosted 14 networking events, creating spaces where business owners could share ideas and build relationships.

Executive Director Skylar Whiteman credited the small business community's strength and dedication as the primary driver of local economic success. In an era when rural communities often struggle to compete with urban centers, Orange County is writing a different story.
