India's Electric Vehicle Sales Jump 75% in April

India just hit a major milestone in the shift to cleaner cars. Electric passenger vehicle sales jumped 75% in April 2026, reaching 23,506 units compared to just 13,421 units the same month last year, according to the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations.

Homegrown automaker Tata Motors led the charge with 8,543 electric vehicles sold last month. That's a 77% increase from April 2025, proving Indian companies are driving the clean energy revolution at home.

Mahindra & Mahindra came in second with 5,413 units, while JSW MG Motor India rounded out the top three with 5,006 electric cars sold. All three major players saw double-digit growth, showing this isn't a fluke but a genuine trend.

The electric revolution isn't limited to four wheels. Two-wheeler electric vehicle sales climbed 61% to reach 148,740 units in April, with TVS Motor Company leading the pack at nearly 89% growth.

Even India's iconic three-wheelers are going electric, with 64,549 units sold last month. Electric commercial vehicles more than doubled their sales, jumping from 902 units to 2,245 units in just one year.

This surge means cleaner air for millions of Indian families, especially in congested cities where vehicle emissions impact daily life. Every electric vehicle on the road replaces exhaust fumes with quiet, zero-emission transportation.
