In India's Kanpur Nagar district, skilled leather workers are crafting some of the world's finest equestrian riding boots and sending them to riders on three continents.

The city's leather industry has quietly mastered one of footwear's toughest challenges: tall riding boots. Unlike regular shoes, a single boot size requires multiple calf widths and height combinations, demanding precision that few manufacturers worldwide can deliver consistently.

Vinit Verma's company, Lord Shiva Export, shows how this craft translates into global success. His workshop now produces 250 to 300 pairs of riding boots daily, up from just 150 pairs when he started. Every boot ships to customers in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, and across Europe.

The boots aren't fashion statements. They're performance equipment built for durability and exact fit. Premium models use imported cow leather chosen for thickness and strength during intensive riding. Other lines use domestic leather from Kanpur and Chennai for lighter applications.

The making process reflects generations of knowledge. Workers select leather based on specifications, cut and stitch pieces during closing, then shape the boot during lasting to lock in structure and fit. Soles get matched to intended use. Finishing ensures waterproof performance meets defined standards before packing.

The Ripple Effect

Kanpur's riding boot success represents something bigger than one factory's growth. India's government recognized the district's leather expertise through its One District One Product Programme, helping enterprises connect with international buyers more easily.

The region's established leather ecosystem makes this specialization possible. Tanneries, component suppliers, and skilled workers form a manufacturing network that can deliver consistent quality at scale. As orders grow, so does local employment and economic opportunity.
