Solar panels and wind turbines stretching across sunny Indian landscape generating clean renewable electricity

India's ReNew Energy Hits Record 2.4 GW Green Power in 2026

🤯 Mind Blown

India's second-largest renewable energy company just completed its biggest year ever, powering up enough clean electricity to supply millions of homes. ReNew Energy Global commissioned 2.4 gigawatts of solar, wind, and battery capacity in 2026.

India just took its biggest leap yet toward a cleaner future. ReNew Energy Global, the country's second-largest renewable power producer, finished its most successful year on record by bringing 2.4 gigawatts of clean energy online in fiscal year 2026.

That's enough electricity to power roughly 2 million homes without burning a single ounce of coal or gas. The new capacity includes 1.75 gigawatts of solar panels, 620 megawatts of wind turbines, and 25 megawatts of battery storage to keep the lights on even when the sun sets and the wind stops.

The milestone pushed ReNew's total operating capacity to 12.6 gigawatts, cementing its position as India's runner-up in renewable energy production. The company now manages a pipeline of 20 gigawatts in total capacity, with another 450 megawatts ready to flip on in the coming weeks.

Founder and CEO Sumant Sinha credits India's growing energy appetite and supportive government policies for creating the perfect environment for clean power expansion. "Rising power demand, cost competitiveness of renewable energy and supportive policy frameworks in India create a long-term compelling growth backdrop," he said.

ReNew isn't just building power plants. The company operates its own solar manufacturing facilities that produced 4.1 gigawatts worth of solar modules and 1.86 gigawatts of cells during the year. They're expanding cell production by another 4 gigawatts by December 2026.

The Ripple Effect

Major tech companies are already plugging into ReNew's clean energy. Microsoft, Amazon, and Google all purchase power from the company's commercial and industrial division, which has 2.5 gigawatts of committed capacity.

The momentum is attracting serious investment too. ReNew raised $95 million from LeapFrog Investments in March 2026, while its solar manufacturing arm secured $100 million from British International Investment earlier in the year.

Every gigawatt of renewable energy displaces millions of tons of carbon dioxide that would have come from burning coal. As India races to meet its climate commitments while powering economic growth, companies like ReNew are proving clean energy can scale fast enough to meet the challenge.
