Indonesian Chef Turns Childhood Hardship Into Dubai Success

In Bobby Sutanto's childhood home in Indonesia, no one ate until everyone sat down together. Meals were shared from dishes in the center, leftovers saved for tomorrow, and every single plate had to be finished.

Today, Sutanto leads multicultural kitchen teams at a renowned Dubai restaurant, serving diners from across the globe. But his journey to the UAE's luxury dining scene started with a boy who dared to dream beyond his circumstances.

Sutanto discovered his passion for cooking early and knew he wanted more than what his hometown could offer. He moved to Singapore to study and launch his professional career, spending four years building a foundation in hospitality and culinary excellence.

Macau came next, exposing him to world-class standards in luxury dining. But Dubai was always the destination he had his sights on.

His upbringing shaped how he faced every challenge. "I didn't come from a privileged background, so I knew that nothing would be handed to me," he explained.
