Iron Mountain Park Volunteers Gear Up for Summer Season
A Michigan community is rallying together to prepare their beloved Lake Antoine Park for summer fun. Volunteers of all ages are invited to join the cleanup effort this Saturday.
When spring arrives in Iron Mountain, Michigan, something special happens: neighbors grab rakes and work gloves to transform their community park into a summer paradise.
Lake Antoine Park Partners is hosting its first volunteer work bee of 2026 this Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon. The annual tradition brings together community members to prep the park for the busy season ahead.
The cleanup projects range from raking and trash removal to spreading mulch around the playground and beach house. Volunteers will also help relocate supplies into a new storage building, making future park maintenance much easier.
"The grass, trees and flowers in the park are still waking up," said LAPP treasurer Ann Hruska. "This is a good time to get the grounds cleaned for the opening of the season."
The group will provide rakes and work gloves, though volunteers can bring their own tools. Leaf blowers are especially welcome to clear debris from the park's new playground turf. Water and snacks will keep everyone refreshed throughout the morning.

Why This Inspires
This kind of community collaboration creates more than just a clean park. When families work together to care for shared spaces, they build connections that last far beyond a single Saturday morning.
The work bee also sets the stage for an exciting summer lineup. Free concerts by the Dickinson County Area Band will fill the park's band shell throughout June and July, and a Veterans Appreciation Picnic is scheduled for late June.
For those with packed summer schedules, LAPP planned a second cleanup day on June 16 from 5 to 7 p.m., just before the Fourth of July rush. The group knows that maintaining community spaces takes ongoing effort, and they're making it easy for everyone to pitch in.
"All ages are welcome," Hruska said. "Bring family and friends."
It's a simple invitation that transforms routine maintenance into meaningful community building, one rake at a time.
