Jackson Rescuers Save 8 Pit Bulls from Abandoned Home
Eight pit bulls, including two puppies, got a second chance at life after neighbors noticed they'd been left behind in Jackson, Tennessee. Animal Rescue Corps and local police worked together to give these dogs the emergency care they desperately needed.
When a concerned neighbor in Jackson, Tennessee noticed no one had been caring for dogs at a nearby property for days, one phone call set a life-saving rescue in motion.
On April 9, Animal Rescue Corps partnered with Jackson Police to rescue eight pit bulls from an abandoned home. The team found two puppies inside the house, three dogs chained in the yard, and three more confined to wooden hutches.
The dogs were in heartbreaking condition. They were underweight and dehydrated, with broken teeth and skin lesions from exposure to harsh conditions. No food was anywhere on the property, and the only water available was contaminated.
Local animal control reached out to Animal Rescue Corps because their facility didn't have space for all eight dogs at once. Without immediate intervention, these animals faced serious danger from continued neglect.
"These dogs were found in dangerous conditions with little to no access to the essentials they needed to survive," said Tim Woodward, ARC's Executive Director. "Intervening when situations reach this point is critical to giving them a chance at recovery."

Officials suspect the owner was breeding the dogs and may have connections to dog fighting. Whitney Owen, Director of Animal Services, praised the partnership that made the rescue possible.
All eight dogs were transported to the ARC Rescue Center near Nashville. They're now receiving comprehensive veterinary care, vaccinations, medical treatment, nutritious food, and safe shelter.
The Ripple Effect
This rescue shows how community awareness creates real change. One neighbor's willingness to speak up triggered a coordinated response from local police, animal control, and a national rescue organization. Animal Rescue Corps has been doing this work since 2010, stepping in when communities lack resources to address animal abuse on their own.
The organization's commitment to ending animal suffering earned recognition in 2025 when Executive Director Tim Woodward became a CNN Hero finalist. That national spotlight helps ARC continue rescuing animals who have no other hope.
These eight pit bulls went from facing possible death to receiving expert care in less than 24 hours. Their recovery journey has just begun, but they're finally safe, fed, and surrounded by people who care.
