Jaipur Summit Draws 10,000 to Shape India's AI Future

When cricket legend Virender Sehwag tells startup founders their biggest lesson, he doesn't talk about boundaries or records. He talks about the day his captain told him to play his natural game, knowing the team would back him even if he failed.

That moment of trust became the unexpected centerpiece of wisdom at the TiE Global Summit in Jaipur this January, where 10,000 entrepreneurs from over 30 countries gathered to answer one question: How will AI reshape India's next decade? The answer arrived through stories, policy launches, and a bold vision that puts technology in the hands of everyday citizens.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi set the tone in his opening message. "AI is writing the code for humanity," he said, emphasizing how artificial intelligence is already transforming healthcare, education, agriculture, and governance across India.

Rajasthan responded by unveiling its AI and Machine Learning Policy, an AI Mission, and new training programs. The message was clear: smaller cities can lead India's tech revolution, not just follow it.

MIT's Ramesh Raskar took that vision further with a practical proposal. He outlined how India could give every citizen an AI agent connected to their Aadhaar ID, payment systems, and documents. These digital assistants would help people navigate services, access opportunities, and participate in the AI economy without needing technical skills.

The window to build this open system is closing fast, Raskar warned. Without open protocols now, AI risks becoming controlled by a handful of companies instead of serving everyone equally.

The Ripple Effect

Sehwag's cricket wisdom resonated because it captured what multiple speakers emphasized across three days: trust enables risk, and risk drives innovation. When he played under captain Sourav Ganguly, he learned that great leaders understand their team members and give them freedom to perform.

"If you allow your employees to take risks, you must support them," Sehwag told the audience. "Otherwise, the company will not succeed." He reminded founders that today's hero can be tomorrow's zero, and humility matters as much as ambition.

Business model expert Alexander Osterwalder reinforced this with practical advice for founders. Test ideas before building them. Focus on whether customers actually want and will pay for solutions, not just whether you can technically build them. Mental models and old ways of thinking kill more companies than new competitors do.

The summit also showcased real success stories, including Genspark, which became a unicorn in under two years by solving a universal problem. Knowledge workers waste hours daily switching between disconnected tools, so Genspark coordinated AI agents into one platform that replaced chaos with efficiency.

Government officials from multiple states attended alongside investors who discussed new funding frameworks. The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade announced Fund of Funds 2, prioritizing deep tech and manufacturing with investments up to Rs 10 crore to bridge early funding gaps.

One investor highlighted Genrobotic, a company using robots to end the dangerous practice of manual sewer cleaning, proving that profitable deeptech companies can solve India's toughest problems while building defensible businesses.

The summit transformed Jaipur from a beautiful historic city into a serious contender as India's next major innovation hub, proving that vision and infrastructure matter more than metro addresses.
