Japan Opens $100K Challenge for Young Social Innovators

Young people in Japan now have a powerful platform to turn their world-changing ideas into reality, with prizes, mentorship, and connections across Asia up for grabs.

The Youth Co:Lab Social Innovation Challenge Japan invites anyone under 36 to submit business ideas addressing social challenges and United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The program welcomes everything from early concepts to ventures already running for up to four years.

The challenge puts special focus on three key areas: technology and AI solutions, disaster risk reduction strategies, and projects contributing to sustainable development. Young innovators can compete for multiple awards including the Excellence Award, Youth Innovation Award, and special recognition categories from partners like UNHCR and Yachiyo.

Eligibility is straightforward. Applicants must be high school age or older, under 36 by March 2027, and either Japanese nationals or Japan residents for more than two years. Both solo founders and teams can apply, though team leaders must meet all requirements.

The program goes beyond just prize money. Winners gain access to a network of young innovators and experts across Asia, opportunities to present at international events, and resources to scale their social impact ventures.
